Be Rich, Be American
The other day my father told me that he is no longer going to vote. He said it was because it really didn’t matter whom he chooses our government puts in office that they want and his vote it’s just a waste of time.
I was raised more of an American than most, born in 1956 where every morning before school we stood outside standing under an empty flag pole and we would watch the stars and bars raise to the sound of John Phillip Sosa’s “Star Spangled Banner” playing over the intercom. As the flag raised we put our little right hands over our hearts and pledged our allegiance to the US of A. That was a pledge of allegiance not a suggestion or when times are good I am an American no matter where I am.
What I did my entire life is follow an agent from the C.I.A. around the world looking out for Americans Interest. Every country my family traveled to was close or in the middle of one conflict or another. My father lived his life for the security of America and out of his mouth the words, “My vote does no good” Came out of.
I am an American who voted early this year but as I voted my Father’s wisdom ran through my mind as I did the only thing that makes sense I voted the Democratic ticket for anything else would feed the countries discontent by keeping our country at status-quoi.
All American’s should share in the dream that America is. Our neighbors have their rights to have their civil wars or not. It’s not ours to police the world although it is ours to watch our own land and tongues.
